Magic Mike was basically a weird movie - far more of an indie drama than the stripper comedy it wanted people to think it was.
But it was entertaining enough (especially thanks to Matthew McConaughey and Channing Tatum's ass shaking) and, more importantly, made $170 million on a $7 million budget. So, more please.
And so it came to be. Channing Tatum has been teasing the sequel for a while now and we've got final confirmation - Magic Mike XXL is a thing. It sounds like a DVD sequel but we're assured that most of the cast will be back, yes including Oscar winner McConaughey.
Tatum is working on the script at the moment, which is set to be a road movie and will be a lot more fun than the first film - which is probably a good thing. So long as it doesn't turn into some random comedy. Previous directorSteven Soderbergh doesn't make movies anymore (for the moment) so his long time Assistant Director Gregory Jacobs will take the helm.
And the release date? It's currently set for July 3rd 2015 - so some R-rated counter programming for a summer movie season that's already chock full of the likes of Terminator 5, The Avengers 2, Jurassic World and more.
