In case you didn't know, Marvel and Netflix put together a serious plan a few years back to bring a series of superheroes to the smaller screen.
The idea was to take alternative characters and build up their stories in stand alone series, with titles to include the likes of Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist. After each had been introduced, they would all come together for a major mini series event called The Defenders.
Well we've already seen Daredevil and Jessica Jones, Luke Cage is coming in a few short months and Iron Fist will make his bow in 2017, so now it's time for a tease of what's to come.
It's a really ambitious idea, allowing us to really get a feel for these characters over entire seasons and then giving them time to breathe as they come together for a major battle. While the Avengers films are entertaining in their own right, they often feel incredibly overstuffed. Instead here we're going to get around eight hours to see how the group dynamics really work, with a relatively intimate roster of characters.
The deal between Netflix and Marvel has produced some really strong TV already, and we can't wait to see what they do with a larger budget on The Defenders. Expect this towards the end of 2017.
