Groot raises a good point. This trailer indeed differs from the previous Guardians of the Galaxy promotional material. Whereas other trailers and spots focused on the humour and inherent weirdness of the project, this one plays a little closer to traditional selling points like narrative, character and motivation. That said, there’s also a metric butt-ton of new footage, most of it dynamic and action-y, all of it vibrant and colourful. And that coda with Chris Pratt’s Star Lord and Bradley Cooper’s Rocket bickering over the merits of keeping a bomb in a box is suitably weird and humorous, bringing us full circle!
Truth be told, I’m still in two minds about this project. I half expect the underlying narrative to feature that under-proved, half-baked dampness that certain Marvel properties, even the good ones like Avengers and Thor 2 tend to suffer. But on the flip side, it looks sodding hilarious, gloriously colourful and brimming with ballistic, dynamic combat.
Count me in.
