Last week we brought you the news that Josh Hartnett had decided to pass on roles as Superman, Batman and Spider-Man so far in his career, but did you know that Nicolas Cage was once earmarked for the role of Supes in a movie that was to be helmed by everyone's favourite kooky director Tim Burton?
Cage discusses the abandoned movie Superman Liveswith Total Film magazine this month, and goes into some detail about how Burton planned to make Superman look a lot different than you might have expected, saying:
I know it would be a good match, but I have no regrets. I'm a big believer that the right person for the part is the one that winds up making the movie. I was going to have giant black Samurai hair and make him very different.
There has never been much secrecy about the Superman Lives project, but this is the first time, that we're aware, that Cage has spoken about the planned aesthetics for the character, making us all very thankful that this one struggled to get out of the starting blocks and was canned after a year of pre-production, costing around $30m in total.
