A rumour hit the internet yesterday that Joseph Gordon-Levitt
would be in line to play Batman in the upcoming Justice League
movie. However, his reps have come out to rain on that parade and dismissed the rumours. An idea like this was always going to be floated, especially after the ending of The Dark Knight Rises in which he came face to face with the suit after Bruce Wayne’s disappearance. But for now, the caped crusader’s mask does not protect an actor’s face.
The Justice League movie, which represents DC Comics’ crack at an Avengers-like movie with a cast of favourite characters such as Superman, Batman, The Flash, Green Lantern, and Wonder Woman among others, is in line for a summer 2015 release. The majority of the roles are still up for grabs, but there is plenty of time to fill each and every diverse costume.
Those involved in the decision making process have to take it one step at a time. The primary objective at the moment is a successful return to the big screen for Superman who will appear in Man of Steel
in June 2013. This could act as the introduction for Justice League considering Henry Cavill
has signed on for three Superman movies and the proximity of the initial release dates. Director Zack Snyder admitted to the New York Post that the release dates could cause issues if Justice League does not recognise the former’s existence. He said, “The Man of Steel exists, and Superman is in it. I don’t know how you’d move forward without acknowledging that.” As a result, we may see a cameo from another DC superhero. With Christopher Nolan’s involvement in Man of Steel, many are hoping that Batman will enter the foray at some point.
Rumours regarding the Bat will circulate for some time to come. In a way, it would make sense for Joseph Gordon-Levitt to fill the role considering his discovery at the end of The Dark Knight Rises, the fact that audiences would have warmed to him in that film, and his solid output to date. Who would you like to see as the next man to wear the cowl?
