He might not have all that major a role in any of the Marvel movies, but Samuel L. Jackson's Nick Fury will be marginalized even more than usual for next year's follow up to The Avengers, Age of Ultron. The actor has been doing the press rounds for Captain America: Winter Soldierand, while speaking with Yahoo, he's gone on record to claim that his involvement in the movie probably won't amount to too much...
I’m just kind of passing by there, you know. I’m not doing so much, I don’t think. Because, it’s another one of those ‘people who have powers fighting people who have powers’. That’s why I didn’t get to New York inThe Avengers. There’s not a lot I could do except shoot a gun.
While it makes sense that there's probably not all that much value in having Nick Fury leading from the front, the character has built up quite a following over the past few years, so many will no doubt be disappointed if there's not at least SOME decent screen time for him when the movie launches next summer.
Obviously Jackson's quotes are up for interpretation, and it could well be that he's got a reasonably meaty role, but steps back for the action scenes, but that seems unlikely - and that makes us sad.
