Last year's Now You See Me was a fun little heist/magic/thriller number with a nice cast and enough energy to get past the fact that it was all basically preposterous. It was also a surprising box office sucess, so SEQUEL!
The second film is already in pre-production, with most of the cast returning including Jesse Eisenberg, Mark Ruffalo, Dave Franco and Woody Harelson. Morgan Freeman will also be popping in, as well as Sir Michael Caine in what is supposed to be his final big screen role.
The plot for the sequel goes thusly:
"One year after outwitting the FBI and winning the public’s adulation with their mind-bending spectacles, the Four Horsemen resurface in NOW YOU SEE ME 2 only to find themselves face to face with a new enemy who enlists them to pull off their most dangerous heist yet."
Grand so. In terms of who might be playing that new enemy, we've only got a couple of things to go on. For one thing - Daniel Radcliffe has joined the cast. Personally, I think there's something a bit hilarious about having Harry Potter himself turn up in a movie about magic but could he play the villain?
Or perhaps the baddie could be Jay Chou, who teamed up with Seth Rogen for The Green Hornet a few years back and hasn't been seen in a Western film since - though we thought the singer-turned-actor was actually pretty good. It's a fairly safe bet that Lizzy Caplan won't be the big bad, seeing as she's on board to replace Isla Fisher, who bowed out of the sequel.
The second film will be directed by Jon M. Chu, and it sounds like a great fit fo the former dance film director who didn't quite get a hold of GI Joe Retaliation. All in all, its sounding like a pretty good time.
Now You See Me 2 has a release date of June 2016.
