With career highlights The Transporter
shining as brightly as Jason Crank’s
polished dome, Louis Leterrier
was once heralded as the driving force behind the action genre. But without seasoned actioners Corey Yuen
and Yuen Woo Ping
in his corner, Leterrier
showed his true colours.
Horifically, his true colours took the shape of Clash of the Titans.
And The Incredible Hulk.
And Transporter 2.
Leterrier returns with Now You See Me
, a film about magicians who rob banks and outsmart the police while generally being smug and condescending. I guess we’re supposed to root for them. Admittedly my eyeholes are happy to root for Isla Fisher. But I can’t help that...
With Michael Caine
and Morgan Freeman
reuniting to talk about how great magicians are, Now You See Me appears quite heavy handed. But with the always charming Mark Ruffalo
in support and current Golden Boy Jesse Eisenburg
taking the lead, like the artistry it mimics, Now You See Me certainly has the potential to entertain.
However, a word of caution to Leterrier
and co... If the magic is achieved via inexplicable CG wizardry, the only disappearing act will be asses vanishing from chairs to post harsh criticism on the interweb machine!
