A single white rose was tied to a new wooden bench dedicated to the late
Gerry Ryan — after the original was torched by mindless vandals.
The bench is dedicated to the memory of the late broadcaster by his girlfriend Melanie Verwoerd.
The first one was burnt out in January. The new seat was put in place on Tuesday night and tarmac work around the seat was finished off yesterday morning.
The wooden bench overlooks the duck pond in
Dublin’s Herbert Park in Ballsbridge and a new plaque was in place yesterday with the same tribute message.
It reads: “Seasons may change winter to spring, but I love you till the end of time.” It is a quote from the movie
Moulin Rouge which Gerry loved. The original dedication plaque was stolen after the fire and a new one was made in his honour with both names on it.
Melanie started dating the late 2fm star in 2008 two years before she found him dead in his Leeson Street apartment. The pair used to enjoy walks in Herbert Park.
