Baz Ashmawy has vowed to always be there for his kids — as his own father sadly walked out on him.
Baz (36) and his partner Tanya Evans are due to welcome their second child this year — and the tot will be her sixth baby.
The RTE star — whose weekend radio slot on 2fm with
Lucy Kennedy was recently axed — said on Father’s Day yesterday: “From my eldest to my youngest I love them all to bits.
“I want to be there for them in a way my dad wasn’t for me. My dad left when I was only seven so my mum and grandmother looked after me for most of my life.”
But Baz didn’t banish his dad — an Egyptian man who married an Irish woman — from his life. “I got in contact with him and reconciled years later,” he said.
“I don’t think it’s good for anyone to hold on to bitterness. We actually became more like good pals in the end. But everyone wants a parent and someone they can rely on, not a pal. I think you learn a lot from every relationship and some people just aren't meant to be parents. But you can't hold it against them."
