Westlife heartthrob
Nicky Byrne shows he has a pre-gig warm-up that really packs a punch.
A video has emerged on the website YouTube of the 33-year-old warming up for the bands’ concerts in Belfast last week by doing a boxing workout with ex-WBC bantamweight champion
Wayne McCullough (41).
The former Leeds United goalie shows he has lost none of his athletic prowess as he pummels the pads held by ‘Pocket Rocket’ McCullough.
The boxing champion’s 14-year-old daughter Wynona opened the shows for the boyband at Belfast’s Odyssey Arena. Watched by his wife Georgina and five-year-old twins Rocco and Jay, Nicky goes through his paces at a frenetic pace. The video was filmed in the
Westlife lads’ dressing room.
The singer responds to shouted instructions from the one-time champ by throwing a bewildering array of hooks, jabs and crosses as he gets the adrenalin pumping before the big show. McCullough admitted after the sparring session: “You could see he was a sportsman, he is still in fantastic shape, and his reflexes are very very fast. I guess that comes from being a goalie.
“He just seems to me to be a natural athlete and if he had chosen boxing ahead of football he would probably have made some kind of go at it. Thankfully, he’d have been way out of my weight division so I would never have had to fight him,” he said.
