Pinocchio is making a 3D stop-motion comeback
While Guillermo del Toro is currently working on 14 different titles, he has still found time in the day to sign on to co-direct a new Pinocchio film. Pinocchio will be a a 3D stop-motion animated tale following the “real boy” through a series of adventures in Italy between World War I and World War II. Mark Gustafson has been revealed as del Toro’s fellow director. The script has been penned by del Toro, Matthew Robbins, and Gris Grimly.

No cast has been assembled yet, but del Toro has indicated that he would like Tom Waits as Pinocchio’s father and Donald Sutherland as a fox; we’ll have to wait and see how extraordinary this fox turns out to be. We could be waiting for some time yet, as del Toro has said that he plans to begin shooting in the summer of 2013.
