Planet of the Apes – Closing the gap between Rise and Dawn
‘Attention. Due to the extremity of the simian flu crisis, all regular government functions have been suspended indefinitely.’

As much as I loved Rise of the Planet of the Apes (despite that mouthful of a name) it barely addressed the whole apocalypse thing the series is more or less defined by. In fact, if you skipped out before the End Credits, you’d be at a loss as to why the Earth has more or less gone to shit in the interim years.

This dramatic featurette chronicles what transpired to the rest of the world while Caeser and his family were off having the lolz. And it’s predictably grim stuff, with much of the planet’s population croaking over the course of a painful decade.

While little more than an extended viral advertisement, it should clue series fans and newcomers alike into why the place looks like such a dump in Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. Which, for the record, swings in to cinemas on July 17th.
