The vampires and lycans have a new enemy in this futuristic sequel
After a fun prequel interlude in the form of 2009's
Rise of Lycans, regular broadcasts resume as
Kate Beckinsale dons the improbably tight clothing once again for
Underworld: Awakening.
In a potentially neat sci-fi twist, Beckinsale's Selene wakes in the future after a long period of imprisonment to a world wise the ways of vampires and lycans. As the humans work to stamp out these two races, she leads the fight to save them.
German duo
Mans Marlind and
Bjorn Stein made their English language debut with the preposterous
Shelter last year but early footage of
Awakening looks like a solid action flick. The 3D enabled visuals are drenched in stylish darkness and there’s nothing not to like about vampires kicking all hell out of some pesky humans.
It also doesn’t hurt that Beckinsale still looks ridiculously good in the costume and film fans may be happy that her husband,
Len Wiseman, isn’t at the helm this time. Of course that’s because he’s remaking
Total Recall. Supress your shudders.
Underworld Awakening is in cinemas, in 3D, from the 20th of January 2012.
