Rebel Wilson confirms Pitch Perfect 3

Pitch Perfect 2 will hit cinemas next month, but those involved already have one eye on what’s next.

Rebel Wilson, who plays Fat Amy, told LA Times’ Amy Kaufman that there will be a Pitch Perfect 3 and that she has already signed on to be in it. Naturally, the subject of Anna Kendrick came up, but Rebel doesn’t know if she’ll be back or not. It’s unlikely that the cast needs to be locked down immediately, so it could be a while before we hear about Anna’s involvement. The Pitch Perfect 2 trailer hints that she could leave, but perhaps that’s just the takeaway when viewed in acertain light.

Pitch Perfect was a bit of a surprise hit, grossing $113 million worldwide on a budget of $17 million. Unsurprisingly, Universal pressed ahead with a sequel, which is sure to be more of a day one pull than the original.

Pitch Perfect 2 sees the Barden Bellas entering an international competition, hoping to be the first American representatives to win it. Elizabeth Banks makes her feature length directorial debut with Hailee Steinfeld another newcomer to the main cast. There are rumours that Hailee is in line to take over the franchise in the future, so she’ll be hoping to strike a chord with audiences.

It seems likely that Universal will wait to see how Pitch Perfect 2 fares before starting work on a third in earnest. The powers that be, and superfans, don’t have long to wait. Pitch Perfect 2 arrives in cinemas on May 15th.
