Robert Downey Jr. injured his ankle during the filming of Iron Man 3 according to a statement released by Marvel. Unfortunately this does mean that production on the film will be delayed slightly while the star makes a recovery. Thankfully, it does state that it will be a “short delay”, which is positive news for Downey himself as well as Iron Man fans everywhere.The statement reads:“Robert Downey Jr. sustained an ankle injury on the set of Iron Man 3 in Wilmington, North Carolina while performing a stunt. There will be a short delay in the production schedule while he recuperates.”

It is unlikely that the planned release date will change. The film is scheduled for release in Europe on April 26th and in North America on May 3rd. Guy Pearse, Gwyneth Paltrow, Ben Kingsley and Don Cheadle are set to star alongside Downey.
