Marvel Studios have been doing a great job with the connected movie universe to date but one element which has really been missing is a solo outing for a female superhero. That's finally set to change in 2019 with the debut of Captain Marvel, and a hot ticket lead has just been confirmed.
Brie Larson will be Captain Marvel!
That's pretty great news as Larson is not only an accomplished Oscar winning actress, for Lenny Abrahamson's Room, and someone with a great range and personality. She's perfect for the larger than life Carol Danvers, who has superpowers including flight and the ability to shoot energy from her hands.
Of course it would have been great to see this kind of project emerging earlier in the cycle, it will be almost a decade on from Iron Man by the time Captain Marvel surfaces and we've yet to see any real evidence of a Black Widow movie. Larson will next be seen in the Kong Skull Island film which is set for March 2017.
Captain Marvel will bow in March 2019, we might see her pop up in a cameo before then.
