Movie fans probably know that action star Jean Claude Van Damme was actually the first actor to play the Predator on the set of the classic 1987 film. But the suit sucked, the actor got annoyed and he went off to work on movies where he could slow motion kick folks.
The suit was massively overhauled,Kevin Peter Hall was brought in to tower over Arnie and the rest is movie history. And now we finally get to see a bit of pre-history.
In a video just released by Stan Winston School YouTube channel, part of a larger piece called 'The Monster Show' FX guy Steve Johnson talks about his memories of working on the suit for the original Predator. It would be kind to say that their first effort looked basically like a confused lobster and thankfully we get to see the ridiculous creation in motion, hear the design philosophy behind it and get an idea of just how pissed JCVD was inside the thing.
This is amazing stuff.
That story is just gold. I mean look at the frigging thing!
