While some might have expected the Shrek franchise to come to a close after Shrek Forever After, DreamWorks Animation has other plans. It looks like Shrek 5 will be released in 2019, alongside a Shadows from Edgar Wright and David Walliams.
THR reports that NBCUniversal plans to greenlight two DreamWorks Animation films per year with Shrek 5 and Shadows on the line-up for 2019.
It's too early for there to be any concrete details about what will be in store for everyone's favourite ogres in Shrek 5.
Meanwhile, Shadows is a revamped version of a project titled Me and My Shadow. That pieces story revolved around “an incredibly frustrated shadow that yearns for a more dynamic life but happens to be stuck with Stanley Grubb, the world’s most boring human.” It's unclear what has been changed that DreamWorks is now able to push on with the project.
So, there are plenty of DreamWorks projects to look forward to in the coming years, and plenty of time for the key details of both Shrek 5 and Shadows to be locked down.
