Well, this is great news to wake up to. Spider-Man will feature in upcoming Marvel films. Marvel and Sony Pictures have managed to agree on a deal that will see the web slinger featuring in an as-yet-unspecified Marvel movie.
Sony isn’t relinquishing control of the character just yet, though. It will continue to finance, distribute, own, and have "final creative control" of standalone Spider-Man films. However, Marvel is coming on board to co-produce the next Spider-Man film, which will be released in 2017.
Marvel’s announcement also mentioned that the two studios are hoping to explore “opportunities to integrate characters from the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe) into future Spider-Man films.”
This is the announcement that fans have been waiting for. After all, Spider-Man has been a member of the Avengers in Marvel’s comic books for more than 10 years. The Sony Pictures hack last year indicated that talks were under way. And now, thanks to Kevin Feige at Marvel and Amy Pascal who oversaw the launch of the franchise at Sony 13 years ago, the deal is a reality.
So, when will Spider-Man make his Marvel debut? Let the speculation commence.
