Star Trek 2 gets IMAX preview
Star Trek Into Darkness will screen nine minutes in theatres
Three years ago, J.J. Abrams exploded our expectations with a witty and frenetic take on the Star Trek universe, reinventing a franchise and giving us a whole new cast of pretty young things.

Star Trek was truly back but the first film, while certainly entertaining, reeked of an extended introduction – an attempt to get all the right characters in the right chairs before the real adventure could begin.

Happily, the sequel is well on its way to completion, with Star Trek Into Darkness to go before audiences in May 2013. But before all that, audiences will get the chance to experience a massive slice of the action on a suitably epic scale.

The first nine minutes of footage from Star Trek Into Darkness is set to debut exclusively in Digital IMAX and 3D worldwide, marking the first time footage has debuted in IMAX and 3D for a major release.

“Our longtime partners J.J. Abrams, Bryan Burk and the BadRobot team have really hit it out of the park – the footage is absolutely incredible," said Greg Foster, Chairman and President, IMAX Filmed Entertainment. “Their use of the IMAX® Camera and canvas is sure to impress current and future Star Trek fans alike, and we’re thrilled to once again work with our friends at Paramount Pictures to offer this extended ‘first look’ at this highly anticipated summer blockbuster.”

IMAX cameras were used during the production of several sequences for Into Darkness, in much the same way as Christopher Nolan used the format for parts of The Dark Knight and its sequel. The IMAX presentation will fill the screen for these scenes, showing off the added resolution and clarity and putting movie goers right into the action.

Star Trek Into Darkness is again directed by J.J. Abrams from a script by Damon Lindelof, Alex Kurtzman & Roberto Orci. The cast includes returning players include ChrisPine, Zachary Quinto and Zoe Saldana with Benedict Cumberbath coming on board in a villainous role.

Star Trek Into Darkness will be in cinemas from the 17th of May 2013.
