Star Wars Episode VIII still awaiting permission to shoot in Donegal

Star Wars Episode VII wowed audiences worldwide with its scenes on Skellig Michael, and it looks like Episode VIII has other Irish destinations in mind.

It’s being reported that Episode VIII will shoot scenes in the Malin Head area in Donegal, but there are some things to be worked out before it will be given the green light. Speaking with the Donegal Daily, Minister of State at the Department of Arts Joe McHugh said that there are “still a few things to be sorted with the department,” but added that they would be taken care of.

The Department previously confirmed that “a limited amount of filming” will take place on Sybil Head in Dingle later this year. This application was granted subject to strict conditions, as the area is privately owned.

Star Wars Episode VIII will be released in December 2017.
