Star Wars Rogue One trailer has a special cameo

Rogue One has the subtitle of A Star Wars Story, which you're definitely never going to use, but it does imply a couple of things. Mainly this is still Star Wars but it's also something a little bit different.

As the first true theatrically released spin off film it's set to be a very interesting experiment for Disney and Lucasfilm, and there are already plans for another featuring Han Solo in his earlier years.

As for Rogue One, it's set before the time of A New Hope as a small force is tasked with stealing the plans for the Death Star. The first trailer sold the intensity and this time it's an all out war.

A shout out here for Firefly alum Alan Tudyk who is playing the towering K-2SO droid which was previously owned by the Empire. He's also well known as a voice actor and previously appeared as a bot in Alex Proyas' I, Robot- which is better than people give it credit for.

Anyway this looks like a very different tale with a darker look and a focus on characters who aren't so big with the force. There's a great cast including Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Riz Ahmed, Ben Mendelsohn, Forest Whitaker, Mads Mikkelsen and the rather wonderful Donnie Yen, all brought together by Godzilla director Gareth Edwards.

Oh and there's also some Vader...

Some reshoots and tinkering have been taking place in the last few months but there's no reason to worry, we think this is going to be a really interesting entry from the galaxy far, far away.

In cinemas in December, 2016.
