The first teaser for Star Wars: The Force Awakens is here - and without any further ado you really should watch it.
Firstly, props to J.J. Abrams for creating a promo that isn't just total fan service - the new characters are introduced (very quickly) and there's a sense of a world that's a bit different to what we've seen before. This makes me feel like there's a good chance this won't be a slavish follow on but a brave new interpretation, possibly owing quite a bit to what Abrams did with Star Trek.
And when the fan service does kick in, its all good stuff with the ship, the score and the saber...
Right now, I've all but convinced myself that the voice over narration is provided by the one and only Benedict Cumberbatch. The accent is always the same but there's something in the snarl of his words which recalls his character in Star Trek Into Darkness. If so, he's racking up iconic roles like nobodies business - Kahn and Sauron and Sherlock and it doesn't hurt that he's worked with Abrams before.
Like the best teasers, there are more questions than answers here - who's flying the Falcon? What'sJohn Boyega doing in a stormtrooper outfit and where can we buy that lightsaber. More importantly, who's carrying it? There are a few names we don't see onscreen, like Domhnall Gleeson and Adam Driver - the build might suggest that's Driver but we're obviously not supposed to know more just yet. It could even be Andy Serkis, there's a lot of weight and performance to that gait...
Perfectly teased, we are.
We also got a selection of stills for the film in better quality - including one that shows a comparison between the crop factor of a normal cinema and IMAX proportions. So we know for sure that Falcon chase scene is going to be in full screen IMAX. Excellent.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens is in cinemas in December 2015.
