Those big screen DC comics book movies are a pretty dark and dour lot, but on TV things are bright and bubbly and cheerful for the most part in the worlds of The Flash and Supergirl as well as Arrow and Legends of Tomorrow.
They're a very fun antidote to the darkness which seeps into the blockbuster event movies, and they're about to get that bit sillier with the confirmation of a musical episode on the way.
Greg Berlanti is in charge of the 'Arrowverse' on the CW and he's been talking about the musical ep:
"Yes, there will be a musical crossover,” Berlanti said. “There’s going to be a musical pair of episodes in the back half of the year between Supergirl and Flash. We have a number of people who can sing from all shows making appearances."
The Flash has already popped up in Supergirl's first season so the crossover isn't an unknown factor, and there are plenty of cast members who have proven vocal talent including leads Melissa Benoist and Grant Gustin.
The songs will mostly be covers, though original material hasn't been ruled out, and it will all happen through some once off event towards the end of season 3. Musical episodes have been a TV staple for many years including The Simpson, South Park, Xena, Community, Scrubs, Grey's Anatomy, How I Met Your Mother and, of course, Buffy the Vampire Slayer's Once More With Feeling!
