There's nothing better than a really greay musical with stirring songs, epic dance numbers and that furious alchemy which comes from the combination of the two. And Netflix looks like they've got some of that magic happening with The Get Down.
The first sign is that it's the first ever series from Baz Luhrmann, the Australian filmmaker best known for Moulin Rogue and Romeo + Juliet. He knows how to combine spectacle with story and songs and he's heading back to the summer of 1977 in New York City to show the birth of hip hop, punk and disco.
It's looking like a hugely energetic show, complete with stunning visuals and, we're hoping, some really great songs and it's going to be really interesting to see how it unfolds across 13 one hour episodes, all directed by Luhrmann. Here's the latest trailer.
This is going to be a must for musical fans and it's also going to unfold in a suitable epic fashion with the first six episodes debuting on Netflix around the world on the 12th of August, 2016. It's not known when the rest will surface but they'll hopefully be worth the wait.
