Andy Samberg, Jorma Taccone and Akiva Schaffer, collectively known as The Lonely Island, have started shooting their new movie. It’s currently known as “Top Secret Untitled Lonely Island Movie,” according to the teaser poster.
The movie will focus on a rapper whose latest album tanks. This forces him to reunite with his former boy band for a concert.
The film will spoof and dissect recent music documentaries and concert films like Katy Perry’s Part Of Me and the Justin Bieber movie Never Say Never.
The three will star, while Sarah Silverman is expected to feature as a snarky publicist. Taccone and Schaffer will share directorial duties and Judd Apatow is producing the film.
The trio previously put their heads together for Hot Rod in 2007. We feel that was underrated. Since then they have worked on their own TV and film projects, but frequently work with each other on music for The Lonely Island.
Shooting has gotten underway in L.A. There’s no release date set yet, but we’d imagine it’ll arrive sometime mid-2016.
