Daredevil kicked things off in brilliant fashion for the Marvel properties on Netflix, and Jessica Jones upped the stakes even more. Both are set to return for second runs, with Matt Murdock and co back in just a few short weeks on the 18th of March 2016.
In the second season, the blind lawyer from Hell's Kitchen will have new enemies and allies, and sometimes its going to be hard to tell one from the other. That's true in the case of Frank Castle aka The Punisher who is out for vigilante justice on the mean streets, and won't let anyone get in his way.
The character is being played by The Walking Dead's Jon Bernthal (great casting) and the images released so far make it look like possibly the best screen presentation of the character to date. Sorry Dolph Lundgren. Netflix and Marvel bossess are liking this take so much in fact that it looks like they may create a spin off focussing on Castle.
That's great news, especially considering the high level of quality we've already seen from the collaboration between Marvel and Netflix. They already have shows in the works based on Luke Cage and Iron Fist, as well as a mini series mash up called The Defenders, so it looks like the roster will be even bigger.
It also shows an impressive level of flexibility from the creative teams, with the ability to take a new plotline and run with it. That's far closer to the way comics themselves work, focussing in on a character which creates great buzz with readers and forging interesting new paths.
As of right now, there's no official word about a spin off series, and Netflix would be wise to wait until Daredevil season 2 debuts so they can see the reaction of fans around the world, but don't be surprised to see a lot more Punisher in the future.
Daredevil Season 2 comes to Netflix on the 18th of March 2016.
