Written and directed by Gareth Evans, The Raid 2: Berandal has picked up nothing but steam and accolades since its initial reveal at Sundance. Now it’s on the cusp of local release and the marketing campaign has kicked it up into top gear.
Here we have our plucky, elbow-y hero Rama under siege within the confines of a five-seater jeep, with assailants within and without. I’ll admit car chases aint my favourite, with too many (necessary) fast cuts retarding a sense of overall cohesion. However, there are some dynamic long shots and thrilling transitions to be found here, as well as a blistering display of extremely close quarters combat from The Raid 2 frontman, Iko Uwais.
If you’re worried Merantu Films and Sony Pictures Classic are revealing too much ahead of release, you can rest assured that with a running time of 150 minutes and 19 individual fight scenes, you aint seen nothing yet!
The Raid 2: Berandal will kick in theatre doors on April 11th!
