A few weeks back The Rock started posting online about how he wasn't getting on too well with some of the cast of Fast 8. Later these comments were more specifically directed at co-star and producer Vin Diesel.
It all got a bit heated and awkward and some other cast members took sides, making it seem like it could actually have been some real life tension on set.
We were pretty skeptical about it at the time to be honest, mostly because The Rock is always such a nice person on the internet and someone at this scale making a comment like this which isn't immediately deleted is completely out of character when it comes to those working with major studios.
Turns out it's all an act to set up a future Wrestlemaia bout. The word comes from Life & Style with an insider telling the mag:
“The Rock convinced Vin to amp up the drama between them so they could turn it into a WWE match to help promote the April 2017 release of Fast 8.”
I mean there was just no way this was real- Diesel is also just about the most positive person around and he never even took a moment to comment on the issue when it was made public. The truth was bound to come out eventually but still it's going to be interesting to see where they take the rivalry in the months ahead.
Wrestlemania 33 is on in early April 2017, Fast 8 is out on April 14th.
