Cloverfield came out in 2007 and made my brain a bit sick from the constantly moving found footage camera hijinks. Then earlier this year 10 Cloverfield Lane kinda sorta pretended to be set in the same universe.
The connection doesn't make a whole hell of a lot of sense if you think about it too much (for example a smartphone in the film clearly sets the action in modern times) but who cares- J.J. Abrams has said that he wants this to be an anthology series in the same universe with different unique stories. And that's fine.
Now, Abrams' production company Bad Robot has already wrapped on another film which will touch on this setting. The flick is currently under the title of God Particle, though that will likely change.
The Wrap has the news that this is from the Clovefield Zone, and will tell the story of some astronauts on a space station who come up against something altogether shocking and have to work together to survive.
There's a great cast on board, including David Oyelowo, Gugu Mbatha-Raw (so good in Black Mirror), Ziyi Zhang, Elizabeth Debicki,Daniel Brühl and Irish-fella Chris O’Dowd.
Surprisingly, we could see the film in cinemas as soon as February 2017. Hopefully there aren't many special effects to finish.
