20 years after the original, Trainspotting 2 is actually happening.
The cast and crew have been talking about a sequel for many years, and busy director Danny Boyle has finally found time to make the project a reality. And in case you can't quite believe it, here's the first footage from the shoot in Edinburgh.
That's Ewen Bremner very much back in character as Spud. He was part of the original gang including Ewan McGregor, Jonny Lee Miller, Robert Carlyle, Kevin McKidd and Kelly McDonald who appeared in the first film which released back in 1996.
It was a massive hit at the time, catapulting director Boyle to international notice and doing more for some of its stars, notably McGregor, than others. Everyone who is still alive is back for the new film, and they'll be hitting the streets of the Scottish capital over the coming weeks.
The story is based on novelist Irvine Welsh's Porno, which is about the same characters 10 years after the events of Trainspotting. That timeline will have to change but the tale will still revolve around the pornography business and generally unsavoury stuff.
The word is that a falling out between Boyle and McGregor held up the process for several years but that has been resolved and it's all steam ahead, presumably aiming for a 2017 release date.
