More than 15 years ago, the world went wushu crazy for awhile when Ang Lee's Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon hit cinemas. It was a massive box office success, becoming the biggest foreign language film ever at American cinemas and even picking up an Oscar. It was all a bit strange really for people who had been watching films like this from China for years.
Anyway after more than a decade and a half there's a sequel on the way called Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon Sword of Destiny. The film is set to release exclusively on Netflix and features returning character Yu Shu Lien again played by the ageless Michelle Yeoh. The trailer has landed and it looks very fancy altogether.
The story is set up to roughly follow that of the original movie which was itself based on the fourth book of a five part series written by Wang Dulu in the late 1930s and early 1940s. This tale draws from the final part in that series, Iron Knight, Silver Vase but as there's currently no official English translation we can't tell you a lot about what happens.
It's great to see Yeoh back in the role and she's joined the martial arts titan known as Donnie Yen with direction and choreography by the legendary Yuen Woo-Ping (The Matrix, Kill Bill). It looks gorgeous and the fighting is going to be ace.
Sword of Destiny is on Netflix on the 26th of February 2016.
