Shane Black wrote Predator. He penned Lethal Weapon. He keyboard crafted The Last Boy Scout, scribbled Last Action Hero and brought The Long Kiss Goodnight to Life. Then he wrote and director Kiss Kiss Bang Bang and the massively successful Iron Man 3.
He's a bit of a legend, and he's back with a new film starring Russell Crowe and Ryan Gosling called The Nice Guys. We're confident in calling it one of the funniest things you will see all year. Here's a clip showing just how great these two are investigating a crime.
This is a pretty typical interaction between these two strong actors, who both manage some excellent comic timing in the film. Gosling has been coming into his own as a comic actor in recent years but Crowe is a bigger surprise, managing to be both straight man and the source of plenty of excellent gags.
It's the kind of film that just doesn't get made anymore - heavily R-rated and a real throwback to the 80s and early 90s, with a healthy dose of film noir and a whole mess of other elements. It might be more accurate to say that it's the film Black has been making and remaking for the last 30 years but when it's this entertaining we just don't care.
The Nice Guys is in cinemas on the 3rd of June, 2016 and you should go see it.
