You know, we really miss Mel Gibson. Whatever his foibles off screen he was always an entertaining presence on screen, and his contributions as a director were genuinely thrilling.
He may never have the profile he once enjoyed but it it nice to know that the actor is still out there, even if its only in direct-to-video looking fare like Blood Father. It may look a little on the cheap side but director Jean-François Richet previously worked on the just ok remake Assault on Precinct 13 and the two parter crime show Mesrine with Vincent Cassel. That's enough to raise our interest, and this first trailer is pretty decent too.

So it's Gibson cashing in on that whole Liam Neeson thing but he looks in fine form, and definitely like the kind of man you don't want to cross. At 60, he's also still pretty nimble in the action moments, making us wonder if he couldn't have played Mad Max one last time. Blood Father is in cinemas in August 2016.
