The fantasy movie genre is a difficult one, with a huge budget needed to do justice to any world that is being created.
Above and beyond that, you also need the time and the drive and almost boundless imagination to add the neccessary detail to make this fantastical realm come to life. If that's missing, the films will suffer - just witness the difference between Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings and Hobbit series.
So any new fantasy property already has the deck stacked against it, with everything apart from Jackson's epics falling by the wayside in recent years. Well it's time to try again with Warcraft.
It's based on the world behind the massively popular World of Warcraft, which was first created by Blizzard Entertainment in 1994 for the real time strategy game Warcraft: Orcs & Humans.
The story is about what happens when the Orcs and Humans first come into contact, and the war which breaks out that could lead to the end of both their species. There's a new trailer with plenty of never before seen footage below.
Now I love a good fantasy film and part of my brain really wants this to be a truly great blockbuster but there are a lot of things standing in the way. For one, the visual style is a really strange mix of cartoonish elements in the Orc CG and a more gritty feel for the human world.
The film has been rated PG-13 so there will obviously be some violence in the action scenes but it will still want to be family fare. And I'm sorry but Paula Patton looks utterly ridiculous as a green skinned semi Orc thing.
Still, I'd very much like to be proven wrong when Warcraft arrives in cinemas on the 30th of May, 2016.
