VIDEO Suicide Squad trailer might be the best thing ever

Batman v Superman are coming out to play in a few short months for blockbuster sequel/set up Dawn of Justice, but it's another DC movie which really has our attention.

Suicide Squad is set to bow in August 2016 and it's got an impressive cast and an interesting director in David Ayer (End of Watch, Fury). It also now has one of the best trailers we've ever seen. Observe.

After the oh-so serious Man of Steel and the equally dreary looking Bats v Supes, this just looks like a riot. They dont' waste any time in kicking of with colourful studio idents, and then go full on into the good stuff with a roster of utterly insane folks who are somehow the heroes of this particular piece.

There's Will Smith as shooter Deadshot, Jai Courtney as Boomerang, Jay Hernandez as fire-maker El Diablo and Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje under a lot of makeup as Killer Croc. But the star of this trailer is definitely Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, really selling that psychosis with every fibre of her being. Surprisingly Jared Leto's Joker is mostly kept on the sidelines, hopefully that means we'll get to see his performance unspool with some surprises.

So far this is looking like a real change of pace for DC and, crucially, like nothing which Marvel has on its slate. In going after the bad guys and also giving a major movie to a female lead in the upcoming Wonder Woman, DC comics may yet win the day, at least in terms of diversity.

Suicide Squad is set for release in August 2016.
