I really liked Amazing Spider-Man 2 - it felt like a fun comic book movie with incredible visuals and strong action as well as good performances from its leading stars. But even I can't deny that the film was a little heavy with subplots and random characters.
Now we get to see another 25 minutes of footage which didn't make it to the final cut.
Let that sink in for a minute. The film is already 142 minutes long and this footage represents more or less final versions of scenes. So director Marc Webb wasn't far off bringing the film in at just shy of three hours.
The footage you'll see here comes mostly from the latter half of the film and includes some really very nutty additions as well as some cool stuff which might actually have helped the film. Check it out below. This could be considered spoilery.
That's a lot of footage.
First and foremost - WTF is the deal with bringing back Richard Parker? It takes away a huge amount of what the Spider-Man character is and happens right when he's trying to get over the death of his first love? This should never have gotten past a first draft of a script.
The conversation between Harry and Peter is interesting because it expands on material we first saw in the trailer and on a plot line that Webb has been teasing for two movies now. Can we finally just find out what the hell is going on with Peter's blood, this is just getting annoying.
Some more action for Dane DeHaan's Green Goblin is welcome but the look of the makeup is still distracting and it draws us away from the conflict.
So there's a reason most of this stuff was excised and arguably a little more could have been cut. But I still think it was a hell of a ride.
Amazing Spider-Man 2 is on DVD and blu-ray in the States on the 19th of August and across the pond on September 1st 2014.
