You just have to love Jason Statham. He's a man who created a niche as a certain kind of action star and he's been gleefully kicking and saying things while having very little hair ever since.
He does his own stunts, tells jokes in a way which makes them seem like some kind of accident and is quite happy to star in numerous B-movie action efforts all around the world while managing to look like he kinda gives a crap in every single one of them.
His next is Wild Card, which is actually a remake of a little known 1986 flick starring Burt Reynolds based on a book by the one and only William Goldman (The Princess Bride) - with the Oscar-winning screenwriter returning to pen this film. And that's enough of reason to be interested, then you see this trailer.
His name is Nick Wild!
He's on a mission!
And also money, it would seem. Director Simon West (who has had some mis-steps recently but also directed Con Air) brings some style to this one, including plenty of fun slo-mo action nonsense and there's a surprisingly top notch cast, led by Stanley Tucci who classes up everything he touches.
I've got a good feeling about this one but the best part is that Statham already has 3 more films ready to go if this doesn't pan out so well!
Wild Card will arrive in cinemas in France (under the title Joker) on the 14th of January before debuting in the US on the 30th of January. No Irish release date yet.
