Ethan Hawke seems to be having a great time starring in genre films these days, including the likes of The Purge and Sinister, as well as almost-great sci-fi vampire flick Daybreakers back in 2010.
The directing/writing team of that film, Aussie siblings Micheal and Peter Spierig are back with another shot at sci-fi and this one looks legitmately great. Predestination is based on a 1959 short story by the masterful Robert A. Heinlein called 'All You Zombies' and you get a shout out to that title in this trailer for the film.
It looks very fine indeed.
A quick warning - stay away from any online discussions of the short story if you want to avoid plot spoilers. The twists and turns of the narrative promise to be particularly dense and you'll want to go into this one as fresh as possible.
Unfortunately we're not sure when that's going to happen - Predestination still doesn't have a confirmed releas date in the US or Ireland, though the film has debuted in Australia to strong reviews. This might be one we're going to have to wait for home video for but it really looks worth the wait.
