Space Station 76 wants to remind us of a few things.
Firstly, sci-fi used to be goofy, but it also used to be fun. With sometimes crappy special effects, archaic sexual politics and unlikely lessons in physics. And, more importantly, that Patrick Wilson is awesome and should get more starring roles.
The Wilson is front and centre here, as the Captain of the titular space station who is more interested in smoking and drinking than being concerned about the safety of his crew. Check out the trailer.
That's quite the supporting cast as well, including Liv Tyler, Matt Bomer, Jerry O'Connell and an appearance by Mr. 2001 himself Keir Gullea. Who must be a bit ancient by now (he's 78). Early reviews are saying that on top of the sci-fi skewering and laughs its also a surprisingly dark and touching film, one we can't wait to see.
And extra info for fact fans, Space Station 76 is the first feature for director Jack Plotnick but he's been an actor for years, including turning up as the ill-fated aide to Mayor Richard Wilkins in the early part of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Yea, this guy!
Space Station 76 premiered at SXSW in early 2014 and doesn't have a release date yet. It might arrive on VOD later in the year.
