The movie event of 2015 is here. Or something.
Brit Erika Leonard was a Twilight fan who took to the internet to publish several fan fictions about the characters of Bella Swan and Edward Cullen. These stories were heavily focussed on the intense sexual relationship between the pair and Leonard was eventually forced to remove them from the sites where they were published.
Then, in 2011, the books made a return with the characters renamed, a new title and a new pen name for Leonard.
Her name was now E.L. James. The book was Fifty Shades of Grey.
Since then the entire series of three books (including Fift Shades Darker and Fifty Shades Freed) has sold more than 100 million copies and made Leonard one of the most successful writers of all time. Memorably, she sold more copies of the first book on Amazon than J.K. Rowling's entire haul for the whole Harry Potter series. Jeez.
The story, in its current form, is about a young college student who gets the chance to interview a businessman for her student newspaper. This Anastasia Steele meets Christian Grey - a young entrepreneur who is also extremely hot. Things develop, then things get physical, THEN things get kinky.
The movie version is coming, here's the trailer.
Irish chap Jamie Dornan looks good in a suit but we're not totally convinced by the casting. Regardless, this is guaranteed to make cash and don't be surprised if the second book goes into production immediately.
Fifty Shades of Grey is in cinemas from the 13th of Febraury 2015.
