How did we get here? How did we get to Sesame Street? That’s the question posed by Big Bird as he haunts Carroll Spinney, the voice of Big Bird for 45 years.
The short parody is great from start to finish, even down to its title card (Big Birdman, or (The Unexpected Virtue of Orange Pants)). It’s certainly more child-friendly than the film it’s portraying. As in the film, the sketch starts in Carroll’s dressing room before we get a trademark Birdman scene. The Sesame Street crew recreate the camera work, complete with corridor walks and doorway transitions, before we see Big Bird having a word in Carroll’s ear. Big Bird is voiced by current performer Matt Vogel.
Birdman picked up four Oscars last night, including Best Best Picture, Best Director (Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu), Cinematography, and Best Original Screenplay. It was a well-timed parody and we’d definitely watch more from the crossover. Maybe we’ll get to see Animal pushed beyond his limits in a parody of Whiplash. Check out the short parody below.
