Hill Street is a documentary abou the Irish skateboarding scene from director JJ Rolfe and provides a unique perspective on a sport we would always more associate with the United States.
The doc itself has been in the making for a few years, with a 40 minute version screened at the Jameson Dublin International Film Festival in 2013. I caught that early cut and I'm looking forward to seeing the rest of the story unfold, with more interviews and the valuable real-life footage of skaters in Dublin in the 80s and 90s.
The title comes from the location of the first skate shop in Dublin - Clives of Hill Street - the only haunt for people looking to get equipped and find out about the sport. Owner Clive Rowen even managed to get skating-star Tony Hawk to come to Dublin for a session.
Here's the latest trailer for the film.
Hill Street will get a theatrical release in Ireland on the 23rd of May 2014, with the DVD and VOD version available June 2nd.
