Ok so 2005's Sin City was certainly a striking piece of film-making with a great cast and an impossibly accurate recreation of Frank Miller's original style. But I could just never get on board with it.
I really wanted to like it, I tried very hard but as a film it always just left me cold. The conversations were too self-aware, the performances too arch and the technology all too reminiscent of a fairly poor cut scene from the days of the interactive movie.
So obviously I'm pleased as punch that there's a sequel. Oh look, more green screen...
Check out the second trailer here.
Second time around and things ar elooking cheaper than ever. I understand that the style is a huge part of what people are supposed to love about the project but it just makes everything like a bit of a joke. And that goes double for the no doubt plentiful scenes of action which just look like they were cobbled together with CG.
Maybe I'm totally wrong, and if nothing else you can look forward to a cast that includes Jessica Alba, Josh Brolin, Mickey Rourke, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and a frankly ravishing-looking Eva Green.
In cinemas in August 2014.
