What do you do after making Whiplash - one of the most acclaimed films of the year? Well a musical set in LA, of course.
Damien Chazelle is back with La La Land, which brings Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling back together again for a musical movie set in modern Los Angeles. They previously had immense chemistry together in 2011's Crazy Stupid Love and we're already very excited for what this threesome can come up with.
Chazelle wants to make a film that's set in the real city but bring in an element of timelessness and romance - which should be perfectly served by the musical angle. Given that Whiplash was his first film and had autobiographical elements, all eyes will be on the filmmaker for his followup which is where his skills will be really tested.
The first image from La La Land has surfaced, with Gosling and Stone playing a couple who are being slowly torn apart by the pressures of living at the beating heart of the entertainment industry.
La La Land also stars J.K. Simmins (back after his Oscar winning turn in Whiplash) and Rosemarie DeWitt and will release in July 2016.
