Every time a trailer for Mad Max Fury Road releases, I think they've finally peaked. And every single time I'm wrong. Behold, the latest promo.
I swear my brain is now singed. And I like it.
There's a whole rake of new material here, including a much more talkative Tom Hardy as Max. It mostly sounds like voiceover, so it's still pretty likely he's all but silent in the film proper, which would be in line with reports from early test screenings. Otherwise, we get a better idea of why Hugh Keays-Byrne's Immortan Joe is so hell bent on chasing down Max and co, it seems to be over some... concubines. For want of a better word. Charlize Theron's Imperator Furiosa (what a name!) is trying to escape with the lovely ladies and there are also some water wars going on, only fitting in a future world where resources are scarce.
And there are many explosions, and they mostly look like they were actually done for real. There's also a fellow playing an electric guitar which appears to double as a flamethrower, basically because director George Miller is a mental case. This is going to be one hell of a ride.
Mad Max: Fury Road premieres at Cannes on the 14th of May 2015, hitting cinemas around the world on May 15th.
