The death toll is rising: “Casualties since commencement of operations. Killed 6 officers and 24 men”
This is the latest update in the retelling of the Easter Rising as it is being relayed by 1916 Live. This Twitter account is live-tweeting events as they happened, supported by real papers from the time for a stunning look back at the history of Ireland.
The project dives into a previously unpublished cache of documents from the University of Oxford and tells the story of what happened 100 years ago on the streets of Dublin in a new and vital way.
The updates will continue throughout the week, a century on from the events which laid the foundation for the Irish Free State. And it's part of a wider project called 1916 Live which you can read more about here.
