If you find that having a personal assistant in your pocket like Siri or Google Now isn't quite convenient enough, Amazon has the answer. Say hello to Echo.
You can literally say hello to it because Echo is a personal assistant which lives inside a tube-like speaker thing. Amazon wants you to put one in your living room so you can ask it questions whenever you want and it can run to the cloud to get the answers.
For some reason, they decided to advertise it with the most irritating family ever conceived by an advertising team.
So its a box that can play music and will listen to you. There's nothing revolutionary about the technology here, but what it does for Amazon is put a way to potentially make internet shopping purchases from home just by shouting into the ether about them. Which is a very smart idea for the impulse buyers among us.
Echo is invitation only in the States right now, and costs $199 - though Amazon Prime subscribers get it for the discounted price of $99.
