An Xperia Z2 smartphone survived six weeks underwater
Sony’s Xperia Z2 handset can officially withstand being dunked in 1.5m of water for up to 30 minutes, but one owner found that the handset can be capable of much more.

While on vacation, Alexander Maxén dropped his Xperia Z2 phone into the ocean. He was unable to get the device, but for some reason decided to call it when he was back on the shore. He found that it was still receiving service, but was unable to do anything about it at the time.

Six weeks later, according to the Swedish press, his friend went scuba diving and was able to find the phone. It had external damage and was out of battery life, but surprisingly the device booted up after being plugged in. While it wasn’t in the greatest physical shape, the Xperia Z2 was still capable of making calls and performing other tasks expected of smartphones.

We wouldn’t recommend putting your Xperia Z2 smartphone to the test, but there may be hope if it does end up spending a little longer in water than desired. Of course, this could just be one handset owner who got incredibly lucky – the fact that his friend managed to find his smartphone at all is some proof of that.
